Luna’s Philosophy
Luna’s experience of magic was different than most people. Having been raised in a family of magicians, she didn’t get the “magic bug”, like so many children ( mostly young boys) got that spurred their obsession towards magic as a hobby. No, magic trickery just seemed like a normal everyday occurrence in her life having been raised in a magician’s family. She is the daughter of world renowned magician SHIMADA from Japan. At times magic tricks even seemed pointless to her. As she grew up she started to take a deeper interest in the more theatrical side of the show process, the designing, costuming, stagecraft and other elements like choreography and music. She has a dream to not just become a mere magician doing tricks but she wants to create an experience, an atmosphere , an allure that transcends the objects she manipulates “ I grew up watching some of the greatest artists in the world on all the stages of the world where my dad performed” Luna recalls, “and the thing that stuck with me the most was their characters, how they made me feel, the impression they left me with. A sense of awe and power and inspiration that was hard to describe in words. Like Judy Garland, when you watch her in movies, you see a Hollywood actor but when you watched her live in concert, it was a totally different experience, the passion and power and nuances she put into a song, just hits you and pulls those heart strings. You’re somehow changed forever because you’ve experienced something ...real. “ Luna explains, I was always disturbed by the “catch me if you can “ approach to magic as a young girl. It seemed so arrogant and deceitful to me and even though people to a certain degree enjoy being fooled, they also secretly resent you too cause it makes them feel stupid that they can’t figure it out. I didn’t want to make people feel bad when I entertained them but I was looking for a different way, I wanted to empower them, said Luna. This was a totally opposite approach to traditional magicians in a time when wise guy humor and degrading audience volunteers on stage was all the trend in those days. Luna developed an interest in spiritual philosophies from Buddhism to Hinduism which lead to a active study in different Theologies and Esoteric studies like Kabbalah, Alchemy, Shamanism, Wicca and Goddess and Earth based religions. Numerology , Astrology and Divination just to name a few. “ I started on my “path” when I was 14 years old” said Luna. I spent a lot of my adolescence in Hollywood, CA and I loved hiking early in the morning with my dog in the Hollywood hills and that was where I met my first teacher. He was a real modern day Wizard that locals knew as Gandalf as he was always reading “Lord of the Rings and preaching from it !” Luna laughs. Anyways, he was a rather eccentric character but he helped me see things in a different way. My life like so many 14 year olds was rather dark and manic depressive due to my erratic lifestyle to say the least so he helped me come out of my darkness, or rather, redefined what darkness is. After many years Luna has moved on to creating a mythos around herself using the knowledge of the ancients to fuel her magic with meaning and messages of a positive and transformational nature. “ Through my studies, Luna says, I learned that magic has it’s roots in the healing arts, that shamans (medicine men and women) used magic to help facilitate healing in people who came to them with an illness or dis- ease” Luna has founds ways to express herself and her deep well of knowledge in life's mysteries, using magic as the medium to share her insights with the world. “ I was a psychic reader for a while, helping people , giving them insights about their lives”. This natural clairvoyance has always been with me and is something that runs in my family for generations. My mother has it, my grandmother and great grandmother as well. It has always been a mystery to me why I knew and felt and saw things others did not. Now I don’t question it, I just accept it. Luna concludes with this simple message, I believe we all come into this world with a specific gift, something that we are exceptional at, something that makes the world better for everyone else, a service and a gift to humanity. When we find what that greater purpose is, then we find bliss, fulfillment, connection and true happiness. My hope is that my gift can help bring you closer to yours...
